The West Valley Live Steamers was started by Dwight Durkee, Gordon French and others in Cupertino, California.

Steve Vitkovits wrote in The Call Boy, April 2013:

Dwight was very active in the West Valley Live Steamers, a group whose meetings were mostly descriptions of who chased what full scale steam locomotive along what highway, and Bits and Pieces. The club met in a bank meeting room for many years and never had a track. Local train running was at Dwight's backyard Railroad by invitation.

Group Builds

West Valley Live Steamers hosted at least two large group build projects. John Grant designed a "baby" 2-8-0 Consolidation. At least 17 were built.

Another group build resulted in at least 27 boxcab electric switchers.
