: On my track I used only Culp rail, not only for its scale looks but for the prototypical radiused head. I also strictly adhered to all IBLS recommended wheel and track dimensions. I have found that using a rail and wheels that fit each other, gives you excellent wear along with no derailments. The IBLS recommended standard should also include a rail head radius. My opinion is that the complete IBLS standards should be highly recommended for all to use, rather than a forced standard.

For the past 40 years, or so, I have been an IBLS member. While I was a member of the PVLS in Massachusetts, I met Brenton Barnfather, who signed my IBLS card.
On my track I used only Culp rail, not only for its scale looks but for the prototypical radiused head.

IBLS Lives On

Please consider this historic fact in the year 2012 ---

There are two well-known Live Steamers still living and in good health who just "might" know something of the history of the BLS ..and these two Live Steamers are about the same age today.

One lives in Salisbury, MA ... His name is Cap Purinton.

The other lives in Federal Way, WA (in the Seattle area) ... His name is "Ken Shattock".

They are the paternal grandsons of Carl Purinton and Vic Shattock.

Maybe history can repeat itself once again --- maybe even the "fish chowder" lunches will return.
