Ken Shattock with his one-inch scale 6-2-0 British 'CRAMPTON' in Oakland, CA., 1973. CRAMPTON was the 19th locomotive constructed by Victor Shattock and was completed in 1969. The Prototype is circa 1845. The smaller brass loco sitting next to the CRAMPTON is a 1/4-inch scale, O-gauge model of a Southern Pacific GS-1 4-8-4 that was built by EBMES co-Founder and GGLS member Walter I. Brown. It too was Live Steam and burned denatured alcohol for fuel.

...and then commented:

I know that Mr. Hornsby is jumping up and down with anticipation trying to figure out the type of 'valve gear' on that CRAMPTON loco. Vic said it was "outside Stephenson"!!

So Bob Hornsby replied:

As for the Crampton locomotive having outside Stephenson valve gear, yes it does. Why not? After all Stephenson himself built some Crampton locomotives.
One of the very popular British “Black Five” class 4-6-0 had outside Stephenson valve gear. The locomotive still exists and in operable condition. I’ve only seen one live steam loco with outside Stephenson valve gear.
Here is a standard Black Five class. A great dependable loco in Britain and it only has two cylinders compared to three on most British locos. I am somewhat knowledgeable on British steam.
