The Houston Area Live Steamers are a club in Harris County, Texas. They meet at Zube Park, home of the Cypress Creek & Southern Railroad.

Formation

The following appeared in Modeltec, September 1991:

An effort to organize Live Steam outdoor railroad enthusiasts in the Houston, Harris Country, Texas, vicinity is now underway. While the present majority interest resides in 7-1/2 inch gauge track to accommodate 1.5, 2.5 and 3.0 inch scale equipment, the organizers welcome participation by all individuals with an interest in outdoor railroading, or in other Live Steam machinery. A formal club structure is planned, and the major objective is to develop a club facility and track. Interested parties should contact Jim Jackson, Chairman, H.A.L.S. Formation Committee.

Phase II

HALS celebrated the completion of the Phase II track on February 4, 1999 with a Golden Spike Ceremony. Mary Lou Pasley kindly provided the following video of the event. The video starts with Lee Balkam speaking, standing next to David Hannah III and Jim Jackson.

Phase III

The Phase III section was completed in 2004.
