A Hockey puck is a turnout control mechanism. It is sometimes referred to as a "kick switch".
According to Peter Bryan the inventor of the hockey puck is Pat McCarthy of Pleasant Hill, KS.

- The Iowa Model Steam Engineers use kick switches. We also add an electrical conduit and a kick at both ends so you can come up to a switch and throw it without getting off your engine.
