Here is a list of minimum requirements for a track that could be used by a club.

  • Loading/unloading facilities, including a lift or ramp. Individually owned equipment would not "live" at the site, but would be loaded/unloaded by the club members when needed
  • Water supply for steam locomotives
  • Storage barn for equipment that is club owned that would remain at the RR Museum property. Purpose of the barn is to keep equipment out of the elements, and should be lockable to discourage vandalism
  • In most cases, once laid the track will remain in place and not be relocated

Track panels are built in 10 foot long sections. The curves are made to the correct radius with a rail bender as needed, and are "cut to fit", so it is not quite like an HO scale layout with pre-defined curves. Track can be relocated, but it is with a good deal of effort, as it requires road bed prep, leveling, ballasting, tamping, etc just like the big boys track.

Another restriction is that our equipment requires a minimum of 50 foot radius. Some of our equipment can operate down to 35 foot radius, but then it restricts what could be run on the track.
