John Smyth was from Arkansas. He had the most beautiful Pacific that he built from the ground up (pictured below). He was a prince of a guy! Gosh, I miss him! George Maddox (Maddox Junction at AV&W) ended up with the locomotive. Not sure what happened to it after George passed. He is pulling our heavy weight passenger cars painted in GM&O/Annetta Valley Lines livery.
John Smyth running his Pacific at the Annetta Valley & Western Railroad. This was taken in the late 1970's on the earliest version of the AV&W. John's son, Carrie, is in the white short-sleeve shirt. Terry Shirley is in the blue shirt taking the photograph. Photo provided by Terry Shirley.
