My father, Dr. John W. Newton, was also a train enthusiast. We lived on Newton Road (named after him) and had a train in our backyard that ran across the canyon to our neighbor's house and back. It carried about 12 people and my dad built it himself. We used to go out to Seymour Johnson's place often with our train and join others to run them all day long. My dad used to brag that his diesel engine was ready to run right away while all the steam powered ones took a while to get ready! What great memories!
