Joe Rice wrote the following in Live Steam Magazine, September 1989:

Part of this trip included two fascinating days with Carl Purinton and his son, Charlie. Carl shot hundreds of feet of movie film of the early days in the Live Steam hobby all over North America, which we watched with great interest. There was also time to poke around in his and Charlie's basements and look at some very old but still functioning locomotives, the legendary Wandering Locomotive Books, many old photographs and blueprints, plus lots of other memorabilia from their many years of involvement in the hobby. More important was the opportunity to hear one story after another about their experiences and the people with whom they had contact. And just having a chance to be with two remarkable gentlemen for good camaraderie was a very special bonus for me.
