Seymour Johnson and Edgar Lebeck formed the Club in December of 1955 to further an interest in outdoor model railroading, and to bring together persons sincerely interested in this hobby. It is the intent of the Club to build, maintain, and operate a railroad in seven and one half inch gauge (one and one-half inch scale), in a manner similar to prototype practice, for use by high quality scale models of prototype locomotives and rolling stock meeting the standards established by the club.

It is also the purpose of this Club to provide rides for its members, guests, and various organizations (such as church groups, children's groups, and other philanthropic organizations), to provide them with entertainment and enjoyment. While there is no charge for this activity, the Club does accept donations from guests, which are used to cover costs of operation. The Club is private, and operates on private property; it is never open to the public.

The Club holds meetings on the second Thursday of the month. Regular Run days are held on the following Sunday. Visitation on Regular Run days is by invitation only.

Requests for an invitation to visit may be made to the club secretary.

A person on the property without formal permission, or without a sponsoring club member present, will be considered trespassing.

There is also an annual run, a special event open only to railroading enthusiasts (typically members of reciprocating railroad clubs). Attendance by qualified individuals is possible only by approval of a special application. Individuals and organizations not related to the hobby may not attend.

The Club is governed by Articles of Incorporation, By-laws, and an Operating Rule and Agreement of Land use. Safety is of first importance in the operation of the Club.
