Back-Yard Choo Choo. Dwight Diurkee Jr. of Cupertino, California, says he didn't know a firebox from a snifting valve when he began the drawings and patterns for this 1873 locomotive. Some 1,500 hours later, a 100-pound head of steam had it rolling. He fabricated most parts with a hacksaw and acetylene torch, jobbed out a few bit castings to a foundry.
