Dear friends:
Dear friends:

I believe I have all the locos entered finally which were copied out of Cap Purinton’s old albums at Waushakum last August. That puts us up to 558 total.
This is the first update of the directory since 30 November 2022. I have no news
regarding Chuck Balmer’s 6-8-6 PRR turbine. It was featured and on the cover of the
May/June 2023 issue of “Live Steam”.

I repeat: Removing the glitches and errors is a constant task I’m always happy for any and all additions and corrections. I had some trouble creating PDF files this time and it looks like the photos turn out darker with some PDF-softwares. Apologies.
We’re now up to 693 locos – nine more than last time. I’ve also updated 20-or-so
files. I always appreciate it when I’m sent new info or corrections that always improves the
quality of the registry. I glean some info from the two 3 ½” sites on Facebook.

One big question for this time: This very nice CN 6218 appeared on the “Classic Canadian Nation” Facebook page on 5 March. It is now reportedly at the “Quebec Model Railroad Society” in the city of Quebec. Is she 3 1/2” gauge, and is she indeed live steam? Who knows? She needs to be that to qualify for our site.
Newbies this time include a South African 4-6-2 in British Columbia. Greg Easter’s
Kozo D&RGW 2-8-2 is now nearly complete. Both are narrow-gauge. Hewitson’s CP 4-8-4
from 1946 is running well, perhaps for the first time ever.

Richard Symmes of Beverly MA responded almost immediately that this model was made from wood and cardboard by [[Wilbur T. Frey]] of Vermont and later, Arizona. Frey “built over 200 steam loco models during a 40-year period. They were not to scale, but based on visual ‘measure’ from photos sent to him.” One can find more via [https://www.google.com/search?q=wilbur+t+frey+gallery+of+locomotives Google].
A piece of “important” trivia: Of the 46 Virginias listed, seven have outside valve gear.
An attractive addition – they’re not what the doctor (designer LBSC) ordered. Four of the 11
Challengers and Big Boys listed are in the UK.

All the best for 2024, may world peace arrive soon,

Happy Summer steaming,

The Registry

Russia, Kaliningrad region

5 January 2024

Dear friends:

This is the first update of the directory since 30 November 2022. I have no news regarding Chuck Balmer’s 6-8-6 PRR turbine. It was featured and on the cover of the May/June 2023 issue of “Live Steam”.

We’re now up to 693 locos – nine more than last time. I’ve also updated 20-or-so files. I always appreciate it when I’m sent new info or corrections – that always improves the quality of the registry. I glean some info from the two 3 ½” sites on Facebook.

Newbies this time include a South African 4-6-2 in British Columbia. Greg Easter’s Kozo D&RGW 2-8-2 is now nearly complete. Both are narrow-gauge. Hewitson’s CP 4-8-4 from 1946 is running well, perhaps for the first time ever.

A piece of “important” trivia: Of the 46 Virginias listed, seven have outside valve gear. An attractive addition – they’re not what the doctor (designer LBSC) ordered. Four of the 11 Challengers and Big Boys listed are in the UK.

All the best for 2024, may world peace arrive soon,

Bill Yoder
