			: Here at [[Pennsylvania Live Steamers]] we demand annual boiler hydro and firing tests. We do not have inspectors. We have witnesses. The owner performs the test. We require 150% of working pressure. When hydro complete the owner then drains water to working level and fires up the locomotive. We witness that the pop/relief valves work at working pressure and when forced fired they will not go 6% above working pressure. After all ok we issue a boiler card to that member.

			: About 6 years ago we had a state boiler inspector visit us by dumb luck. He set up an appointment with his boss and another boiler inspector for a meeting with us during the week. They were here most of the day. We showed them what we do and how we keep records. We showed them how we test a one inch scale 0-4-0 and a 1.5 inch scale 4-8-4. They left and several weeks later they told us that we were doing a very good job and they didn't want to get involved unless they were contacted about a problem.

			: When a visitor comes to PLS with a steamer and is not a member we accept there club boiler card. If no card we ask them to do a boiler hydro and fire test. We keep a record but DO NOT give them a card. We have had no problems with visitors.
